The Home Energy Assistance Program, also known as HEAP, is a federal program offering financial assistance from $21 to almost $1,000.
Eligibility is based on a number of factors, including:
Income;
Household size;
Primary heating source;
The presence of a household member who is under age 6, age 60 or older or permanently disabled.
HEAP representatives say a one-person household would be eligible if their monthly income was less than $3,322.
