Seniors living at 900 Grand Concourse say waking up without heat has been the norm for years.

"It's been an iceberg and an apartment," says Gretchen Corley, a resident without heat.

Reports from 311 show dozens of complaints of no heat have been filed since Nov. 1. Many people say they sleep with multiple layers of clothes and blankets—calling this situation abusive toward elders.

The Mid-Bronx Senior Citizens Council, the management team, acknowledged the tenants' frustrations. They tell News 12 the building has had heating problems for the last year. Walter Puryear, a vice president on the council, says they've been working to fix the boiler, but inflation has slowed the process down. He says repairs are expected to begin in late spring or summer of 2025.

Those who live in the building want solutions now.

"it's just unacceptable. People pay their rent. I pay my rent. I deserve to have heat," says Corley.

Management says electric heaters are available for tenants. They are asking residents to communicate their needs directly and to be patient.
