A small stretch of land in Melrose has become a hotspot for illegal dumping, drug use and dangerous activity, leaving residents frustrated and concerned.

The lot, located between train tracks and a parking garage, is littered with hundreds of used needles and drug paraphernalia. Local residents say it’s unsafe for families walking by and is an eyesore for the community.

The Department of Sanitation says it has already removed around 350 needles from the area in the last month and plans to revisit the site next week. DSNY also tells News 12 they may issue a summons to the property owner if the space isn’t properly maintained.

Residents say they want the area turned into something positive, like a green space or after-school program site, to help reclaim their neighborhood.

Property records show NYC Transit owns the lot. News 12 has reached out for more information, but has not yet heard back.
