Friends and family of Robert Castelli, a former state assemblyman and trooper, honored him in Somers Friday afternoon.

He was honored by family, friends and state troopers by naming a New York State Police barrack in Somers in honor of him. A plaque was also unveiled outside the building.

Castelli's family, friends and fellow state troopers say they're doing this to keep his memory alive.

Castelli died in May at the age of 74.

He was a Vietnam veteran and then served a 21-year career with the New York State Police. He also represented northeastern Westchester County in the state Assembly. Castelli was also a college professor and political commentator for News 12.

Friends, family and state troopers say his longtime dedication to the community and the state will always be remembered.

"He'd be very proud. Very proud," says his son, Christian Castelli. "He spent a lot of time at this station, as did I when I was a kid with him. I think this was the station he was assigned to the longest."

Castelli's family also received proclamations from elected officials for his public service to the community and state.
