Bronx high school offers students a head start on college

Students at Bard High School Early College in Crotona Park East are earning more than just a high school diploma.
They’re also graduating with an associate’s degree - all for free.
The rigorous program allows students to take advanced courses in writing, science, and even archaeology to preprare them for higher education. School officials say over 90% of students live in the Bronx, making this a valuable local opportunity.
“It makes me feel really proud of myself and it makes me feel like I’ve accomplished so much, even as a high schooler,” said Janet Cuatlacuatl, a current senior at Bard High School Early College. She tells News 12 she never imagined having access to college level classes in high school, and that she’s grateful for this opportunity to expand her learning.
