The Department of Transportation is working on a seven-mile greenway that will connect Van Cortlandt Park to Randall's Island.

DOT Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez and his team are leading the project that they say will improve the health and well-being of New Yorkers while also increasing access to the water.

"If you walk or bike, you live six more years or more. So, this is about that. When we make our city more pedestrian and cycling friendly, people live longer. People live healthier," said Rodriguez.

The DOT announced the plans two years ago, but now, it is entering the final round of community engagement meetings.

Project leaders want to hear the community's feedback to help influence the final proposal.

The last two meetings will be April 1 at 6 p.m. at Bronx Brewery and April 7 at 6 p.m. on Zoom.

Rodriguez tells News 12 they plan to have a final proposal set by the end of the year.
