Safety changes, upgrades coming to Bushwick intersection after death of 29-year-old

The New York City Department of Transportation says things like curb extensions, sidewalk extensions, painted neckdowns and partial street closures will come to a Bushwick intersection.
It comes after Joann Perahia’s advocation after her son Philippe Hausmann was struck and killed by a box truck in Bushwick in August.
The changes will impact Johnson Avenue, Flushing Avenue, Jefferson Street and Troutman Street.
A portion of Scott Avenue will be closed to cars and only open for pedestrians.
NYC DOT data shows curb and sidewalk extensions can reduce traffic deaths and injuries by 34.1%.
Philippe’s mother says while nothing can bring him back, she hopes to prevent the same thing happening to others.

“I know Philippe is saying ‘thank you, Mom, did it.’ He wanted some justice and we're on our way,” said Perahia.
The NYC DOT says those changes will be made later this year.
