FDNY: 1 critical, 1 seriously injured after fire in Concourse Village

The fire started on the fifth floor of the building, and it took 60 firefighters to get under control, according to fire officials.

The FDNY says one person is in critical condition and one person was seriously injured in a fire in Concourse Village on Sunday.

It happened around 4:30 a.m. at 986 Morris Ave. between East 164th and 165th streets.

The fire started on the fifth floor of the building, and it took 60 firefighters and 12 units to get it under control, according to fire officials.

Neighbors like Tony Rivera recalled the harrowing details.

"There was a lot of panic, mayhem, screaming, confusion," he said. "There were people asking questions about a fire – they smelled smoke."

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
