Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced Tuesday that travelers without a REAL ID will be allowed to fly for now after Wednesday's deadline but may face extra steps and scrutiny.

Enforcement was slated to begin on May 7. Travelers will need the ID to fly domestically and enter certain federal facilities. Residents can also drive and vote without a Real ID.

If you don't have one yet, you will need to bring your passport or a form of TSA-approved identification to travel. Otherwise, you could face delays, additional screenings or rejections from traveling.

The Real ID Act was initially rolled out in 2008 but suffered repeated delays due to state implementation challenges and the COVID-19 pandemic.
