The Newark Bay-Hudson County Extension Improvements Program is an $11 billion project that will double the number of lanes through Bayonne and Jersey City, as well as rebuild the Newark Bay Bridge which would create about 25,000 jobs.

While the mayor of Bayonne supports the plan, leaders in Newark, Jersey City and Hoboken have expressed concerns.

Opposition is also mounting from environmental leaders.

Still, the project is on course to begin in 2026.
