Police say they are still looking for the person who shot a 21-year-old man Sunday outside of Crotona Park.

The victim was shot in his neck and head area and then taken to a hospital in critical condition.

It happened Sunday shortly after 3:30 p.m. when many families, including young children, were heading to the public pool.

A single shell casing sat under a rock and red plastic cup near the corner of Fulton Avenue and East 173rd Street.

News 12 was told that shooting forced Crotona Park Pool to shut down for the rest of the day. It has since reopened, especially during the past hot, humid days.

One grandmother told News 12 on Friday that she brought her three young grandchildren to the pool for the first time this summer.

She said it’s a scary time, but the shooting is not stopping them.

“Incidents happen no matter if it’s hot, it’s cold, whatever,” said Lucia Moya, of Crotona. “We try to enjoy with the kids, bring them to the pool because it’s too hot in the house.”

As of Friday, police said no arrests have been made, and they have not yet released any information about a person of interest or possible motive.
