Sources tell News 12 a 64-year-old man is in custody after police say he shot another man with a crossbow early Tuesday in Fort Greene.

The incident happened around 4:45 a.m. at 61 Hanson Place.

Sources say Joseph English shot a 56-year-old man in the hip before being arrested.

Neighbors told News 12 the area is typically quiet, making the attack unusual, particularly given the weapon involved.

“I’m not afraid of getting hit by a crossbow,” one resident said. “I don’t think that’s the usual thing around here at all, more likely to get shot by a gun.”

The victim was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

English is facing charges of assault, criminal possession of a weapon and menacing.

It is unclear whether he and the victim knew each other.
