The future of the internet is being researched and developed on Long Island.

Researchers at Stony Brook University have been working on quantum internet technology for more than a decade - a new way of transferring information that they believe is faster and more secure.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced a $300 million investment by New York state in SUNY and Stony Brook's Quantum Research and Innovation Hub, a step toward making Long Island the first quantum interconnected region in the United States.

The facility, which they believe will attract students and researchers, as well as jobs, is expected to be completed by 2029.
