A 16-year-old is in stable condition after being in a medically induced coma following a fire that broke out inside her NYCHA apartment Wednesday morning.

According to officials on the scene, the fire started in the living room just before 11:30 a.m.

Carisma Hayes' father, Tyrone, says she was home alone with the cat and dog when smoke began to fill the apartment.

Witnesses on the scene say the 16-year-old was yelling outside her window on the 12th floor for help.

She was rushed to the hospital, where her father says she was placed in a medically induced coma. She is now in stable condition.
