A 16-year-old boy was attacked after a group of men demanded he turn over his phone.

Police say the incident involved a group of five people and it happened about three weeks ago on Oct. 27 minutes after 7 p.m.

Police say the 16-year-old was walking in the area of E. 174th St. and Townsend Avenue when he was approached by the group. After he refused to let them use his cell phone, one of them pushed him. The teen then fell to the ground, and they snatched his cellphone from his hands. The other four started to punch the teen and take his sneakers off his feet. They all ran off after going towards Jerome Avenue.

Police say the teen did appear to have minor injuries, but refused to be checked out on scene.

The five responsible are on the run and anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers immediately.
