The FDNY says that it recovered a body from the water Thursday morning. The person was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS.

News 12 was one of the first to arrive at the scene and saw the emergency response behind a home on Husson Avenue.

The homeowner said he saw something floating in the water and thought it was trash.

"I got closer and then I saw it was the body," said Leslie Bhagwandin, the homeowner who found the body in his backyard.

Police say it was the body of a 58-year-woman but won’t release her identity.

Neighbors were shocked to hear this happened in their area.

"Nothing ever happened here," Wilson Pagan, a neighbor said. "I’ve been here 10-12 years here and never seen anything happen like this.”

The medical examiner is investigating the woman's cause of death.
