How commuters are planning for MTA fare hikes

Neighbors in Fordham told News 12 on Saturday that they are already thinking of ways to save money.
“I just budget, I look for the unlimited options like the weekly…Sometimes if I need to walk, I walk,” said Shelly Wilson.
According to the MTA website, some of the changes coming include fare and toll increases for buses, subway, Metro-North and the Long Island Rail Road.
Bus fare will spike up to $3, while Metro-North CityPeak tickets will scale up by 25 cents.
Commuters who use the TrainTime app will also see a price change. A surcharge of $8 will be applied when a rider purchases a ticket or activates it while already onboard a train.
The MTA said the start of the fare and toll increases were aligned with the full transition to the tap-and-go option.
