Longwood tenants say management is not making repairs to unsafe conditions
Tenants at 643 Southern Blvd. are worried about unsafe conditions in their building that have not been addressed by property owner, David Tennenbaum, and management, Denali Management.

Tenants at 643 Southern Blvd. told News 12 on Wednesday, they have been living in unsafe conditions, including cracked walls and frightening floods.
"There’s roaches and rats. Management tells me they are going to fix it but they don’t come," said Janet Alvea, a tenant on the first floor.
Alvea is part of a group chat with over 30 neighbors who shared videos of previous floods and leaks that have not been addressed by the property owner, David Tennenbaum, and management, Denali Management.
David Tennenbaum was ranked Top 6 Worst Landlords in 2024, and neighbors said their reputation has not changed two years later.
According to the HPD website, the Longwood building has more than 100 violations. Forty of those violations are considered hazardous, as a level C, and should be repaired within 24 to 48 hours.
"The frustration we feel is that we call and no one picks up, you email and no one responds," said Juan, another tenant.
Denali Management released the following statement:
"Over the last 6 months, Denali has spent 10s of thousands of dollars on both apartment and building repairs and continues to work with tenants on additional repairs when apartment access is readily granted. We have also recently filed with HPD for a dismissal inspection to remove violations. As discussed with tenants and tenant representatives, if there are any questions related to any charges, they can reach out and we will work to clarify or correct as needed. Denali takes the management of this property very seriously and will continue to work towards the resolution of tenant concerns."
HPD told News 12 that it "is aware of the situation and has taken steps to address some of the immediately hazardous conditions in the building. HPD was recently on site to conduct an inspection and issued several violations. Now it is the property manager's responsibility to follow the City’s Housing Code by promptly addressing all outstanding violations. We will continue addressing tenant complaints, conducting inspections, and issuing violations to ensure that all New Yorkers feel safe and secure in their own homes."
