Bronx residents are gearing up for this weekend's snowstorm but were surprised with what looks like a rock salt shortage.

"There's no salt at Home Depot," said Sam.

"It's true! We just went in there and they said no salt," said Aida.

Although larger hardware stores, like Home Depot, seem to have run out of stock, don't forget about your local businesses.

William Pedone, at Van Nest Hardware, says they're prepared.

"It's on a first-come, first-serve basis so we're doing the best we can to suit everyone's needs but we have plenty of stock," said Pedone.

The city is also ramping up efforts ahead of this weekend to make sure roads are as safe as possible.

The Department of Sanitation has 700 salt spreaders ready to go.

All highways, major streets and bike lanes across the city will be hit with brine to alleviate the potential mess from snow and ice.

Gov. Kathy Hochul has declared a state of emergency ahead of this weekend's storm.

Hochul says the state is prepared for the storm and is not at risk of running out of salt when treating the roads this weekend.
