New Jersey drivers making the daily trip into New York City are paying more this year as rising tolls and other expenses continue to add to the cost of commuting.

News 12’s Amanda Eustice retraced a drive from Edison to midtown Manhattan to show how much more the trip now costs compared with a year ago. She followed the same route, with the same destination and the same car.

The GPS measured the distance the same at about 33 miles, but the added costs came from every part of the drive.

Tolls on both the Garden State Parkway and the New Jersey Turnpike have increased by 3%.

Gas prices are also higher, creating another expense for drivers heading into the city.
