A Facebook Marketplace car sale turned south after the buyer found out the car he bought was stolen.

Police say the entire transaction happened Wednesday around 11 a.m. on West 246th St. in a very secluded area in Fieldston.

Police say the victim paid $25,000 dollars in cash for a 2022 Toyota Highlander, only to later find out the truck was stolen.

According to police, a 42-year-old man agreed to meet a person he didn't know from Facebook in front of 230 West 246th St. Shortly after he got the car, someone told him the vehicle identification number showed signs of alteration, and it was later confirmed the car was in fact a stolen vehicle.

There are some safer ways to go about buying vehicles online , you can make the transaction at any of your local precincts. The NYPD says all of them are E-Commerce Exchange Zones, which are under surveillance 24/7.
