Abandoned bear cub rescued by New Jersey State Police along I-78

A bear cub found alone in a roadside ditch along Interstate 78 in Union Township was rescued Wednesday afternoon by New Jersey State Police troopers, authorities said.

Troopers from Troop B’s Perryville Station responded at about 1:37 p.m. to I-78 East at milepost 12.2 after receiving a report of a lone cub, according to state police.

When troopers arrived, they found the cub alone and in need of help, police said.

The bear was safely secured and taken back to the barracks before being turned over to the state Department of Environmental Protection.
