Lawsuit claims 26-year-old died due to substandard care he received at the Milford Campus of Bridgeport Hospital

The family of a 26-year-old who died in 2024 at the Milford Campus of Bridgeport Hospital filed a lawsuit against Bridgeport Hospital, Yale New Haven Hospital and Northeast Medical Group.
Conor James Hylton's family says he died in August 2024 and blame his death on the care he received.
The lawsuit says Hylton was admitted to the campus' emergency department and diagnosed with pancreatitis, dehydration, metabolic acidosis and alcohol withdrawal. It adds that because Hylton's condition deteriorated, he was transferred to the ICU.
The suit claims that while in the ICU, Hylton continued to get worse and the next morning, he was unresponsive and was experiencing seizure like activity. It adds that Hylton could not be resuscitated and was pronounced dead.
The document alleges that although a doctor signed off on his pronouncement of death, the actual pronouncement was done by a "tele-health" provider on a video screen.
The suit includes a list of complaints by Hylton's family of substandard care they believed lead to his death. This includes poor communication among providers responsible for his life.
The suit says the hospital used off site tele-ICU providers to care for its patients and that no doctor on site assessed Hylton from the time he was admitted in the ICU until after he exhibited seizure like behavior.
“Yale New Haven Health is aware of this lawsuit and is committed to providing the safest and highest quality of care possible, however, we are unable to comment on pending litigation," said Amanda Raus, media relations coordinator of Bridgeport Hospital.
Yale New Haven Health operates Bridgeport Hospital.
