A man has been charged with murder in connection with a deadly shooting in New Windsor, according to police.

Authorities say 47-year-old Thomas Crews is charged with second-degree murder in the death of 57-year-old Larome A. Johnson.

Police say officers responded just before 9 a.m. Wednesday to Hawthorne Way for reports of shots fired. When they arrived, they found Johnson suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Officers and EMS performed life-saving measures before Johnson was transported to Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police say Crews was arrested at the scene.

Authorities believe the shooting stemmed from a long-running dispute between neighbors and appears to be an isolated incident, with no threat to the public.

Officials say Crews was arraigned at his hospital bedside while being treated for a suspected heart attack. He was remanded and is being held without bail.
