1 person dead, 6 injured in shooting at Union Chick-fil-A

One person was killed and six others were injured in a shooting at the Union Chick‑fil‑A Saturday night, according to the Union County Prosecutor’s Office.

The prosecutor's office says no arrests have been made as of Sunday evening.

"The preliminary investigation reveals this does not appear to be a random act of violence and that there is no immediate ongoing threat to the general public," the prosecutor's office said in a release.

The six injured were treated for injuries that were not life-threatening.

Gov. Mikie Sherrill released a statement Sunday on the shooting.

"My thoughts are with those who were injured in the shooting, and with their families," she said. "I am grateful to our first responders for their swift action and continued efforts to keep the community safe."

Township of Union Mayor Patricia Guerra-Frazier released a statement on social media regarding the shooting.

"Our community is heartbroken and shaken by the tragic act of violence that occurred last night at a local Chick-fil-A," Guerra-Frazier said. "What should have been an ordinary evening has left families grieving, individuals injured, and our entire Township in shock. "

"This tragedy is a painful reminder of the work that remains to ensure the safety of our communities. Violence has no place in the Township of Union, and we will continue to stand together—stronger and more united—in the face of it," Guerra-Frazier added.

A News 12 crew on scene Saturday saw the parking lot of off Route 22 completely blocked off, with officers going in and out of the Chick-fil-A. The scene was completely clear of police by Sunday morning.

News 12 spoke with the owner of PetWellClinic, Jeanine Camporine, on Sunday, which is right across the street from the Chick-Fil-A. While none of her staff were present at the time, she says she believes the area is becoming increasingly dangerous.

“This one is becoming concerning because the amount of incidents that are happening in this local area on Route 22, it's such a beautiful place, but it's highly populated, and it's becoming concerning with the amount of crime that is increasing” she said.

The prosecutor's office says tips can be submitted anonymously by phone and any tip that leads to an indictment and conviction can receive a reward of $10,000.
