Thirty-nine years have passed since a building collapse at the L'Ambiance Plaza development in Bridgeport.

A ceremony was held at the plaza's memorial on Thursday.

It was hosted by the City of Bridgeport and the Fairfield County Building and Construction Trades Council.

The service is held each year to honor the 28 workers killed due to faulty lift slab construction.

The tragedy led to better safety regulations to ensure an accident like this is less likely to happen again.
