A Netcong man has been sentenced to more than four decades in state prison for a 2024 shooting that claimed the life of a Warren County woman and her pet.

Anthony J. Garvin, 34, was sentenced to 42 years in New Jersey State Prison after accepting a plea deal. Garvin previously admitted to a string of charges, including murder, aggravated assault, and animal cruelty.

The incident occurred on the morning of June 27, 2024, along Alphano Road. At approximately 8:15 a.m., authorities say Garvin confronted the victim, Amanda Pulver.

Investigators determined that Garvin shot Pulver in the thigh, an injury that ultimately proved fatal. During the same encounter, Garvin turned the weapon on Pulver’s dog, shooting the animal multiple times. Due to the severity of its injuries, the dog later had to be euthanized.

Garvin was apprehended just hours after the shooting in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania. While officials confirmed that Garvin was known to Pulver, specific details regarding the nature of their relationship have not been made public.

The sentencing marks the conclusion of a case that shook the quiet Independence Township community.
