George Washington Bridge lower level closed indefinitely after debris falls on Cross-Bronx Expressway
It happened just after 8 a.m., leading to the shutdown of all westbound lanes toward the lower level of the bridge while crews worked to investigate and make repairs.

The westbound lanes of the George Washington Bridge’s lower level will be closed indefinitely after debris fell from the ceiling onto a westbound lane of the Cross-Bronx Expressway.
The incident happened around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.
New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill said she has been briefed on the reports.
“The Port Authority is investigating the incident and will undertake any necessary repairs immediately,” Sherrill said in a statement.
All westbound lanes leading to the bridge’s lower level are shut down until the roadway is determined to be safe.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey says the lanes would remain closed through the Wednesday evening commute.
Officials said they received an incident report around 8:30 a.m. and have not released details about what caused the debris to fall.
Travelers heading to the 181st Street exit are being directed to the Jerome Avenue and Major Deegan exits, officials said. The 181st Street exit is closed as of Thursday afternoon.
The Port Authority says they will complete temporary repairs overnight and will reopen by morning rush hour.
