Electrical fire near Penn Station disrupts NJ Transit service and morning commute

The morning commute was impacted on Friday after an electrical fire near New York Penn Station caused delays in NJ Transit service.

As of Friday afternoon, NJ Transit says Midtown Direct service continues to be diverted to Hoboken Terminal. Rail tickets are being cross-honored on buses and PATH to help commuters get to their destinations.

Commuters were first notified of the issue around 1:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Delays and service changes remain in place as crews work at the scene.
