Popular Northeast grocery chain Wegmans has been named to Forbes' list of America’s largest family businesses.

The list was created to celebrate the nation’s top family businesses, which provide the foundation for much of the U.S. economy, as the country approaches its 250th anniversary, according to Forbes.

Wegmans, headquartered in Rochester, New York, and with locations across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions, ranked No. 36 on the list.

Companies on the Forbes list employ an estimated 23% of the American workforce and account for roughly 25% of all U.S. businesses.

Wegmans is one of 67 private companies included in the ranking. The company has more than 55,000 employees and operates 110 stores across the East Coast, reporting $14.3 billion in annual sales.

The supermarket chain also announced Wednesday that it achieved its full “Food You Feel Good About” standard across all bakery products, meaning all items are made without artificial colors, dyes, flavors or unnecessary preservatives.
