News 12’s “Down the Shore” is back with a new season highlighting the people and places that make the region special.

In the premiere episode, Syma Chowdhry goes kayaking in the Pine Barrens, described as one of New Jersey’s most beautiful and mysterious natural areas.

The Pine Barrens is a protected national reserve established by Congress in 1978.

The trip takes place along the Mullica River inside Wharton State Forest, where wildlife including deer, foxes and bald eagles can be seen.

The forest is also associated with stories of the Jersey Devil.

Join hosts Syma Chowdhry and Jim Murdoch for a new episode that airs Saturday and Sunday morning at 10:30.
