As summer approaches, a string of recent shootings across the Bronx is putting residents on edge and raising concerns about rising gun violence.

Police are investigating two separate incidents this week, both in the Bronx South patrol borough, where new data shows a sharp increase in shooting victims compared to last year.

The latest shooting happened Friday morning on Prospect Avenue.

According to police, a 21-year-old woman was walking along the street when a bullet fired from across the road struck her.

The shooting forced several nearby businesses to close temporarily as officers secured the scene and launched an investigation.

Exclusive video obtained by News 12 captures the chaotic moments just hours earlier. Footage shows six people running frantically down Prospect Avenue shortly after gunshots rang out just after 11 p.m. Thursday.

The Prospect Avenue incident was not the only shooting in the borough this week. Gunfire broke out outside 1235 Grand Concourse just before 1 a.m. Wednesday.

Surveillance video shows the moment shots were fired, followed by the suspected gunman and others running from the scene. Three victims can then be seen rushing back inside a nearby apartment building.

Police say a woman was grazed in the neck. Two men in their 20s were also struck — one grazed in the back of the head and another shot in the right leg.

Both shootings occurred within Patrol Borough Bronx South, an NYPD command created as part of a restructuring effort aimed at improving response times and increasing police resources.

Despite those efforts, new numbers show a worrying spike in violence.

Police data indicates shooting victims in Bronx South are up 250% compared to the same week last year — with seven victims reported this week versus just two during the same period in 2025.

Police are still searching for the suspects in both shootings.
