Hundreds lined the Grand Concourse on Saturday as the 40th annual Bronx Puerto Rican Day Parade brought music, dancing and a vibrant display of Puerto Rican pride to the borough.

The parade, themed “Honoring the Past, Inspiring the Future,” celebrated the legacy and resilience of Puerto Rican heritage in the Bronx.

Marchers waved Puerto Rican flags, danced to live music and filled the streets with the island’s culture and traditions.

Leading this year’s celebration as La Madrina was Omi Hopper, who immigrated from Puerto Rico to the United States at age 11. Hopper says that seeing Puerto Rican culture celebrated so prominently is especially meaningful because she did not have that level of representation growing up.

Participants said the parade serves as a reminder of the deep connection many Bronx residents maintain with Puerto Rico and their cultural roots.
