A Pelham Gardens smoke shop has been shut down for a second time after investigators seized hundreds of pounds of illegal cannabis as well as vape and tobacco products, according to the New York City Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies executed an enforcement operation on Wednesday at Indica Diamond, located at 1334 E. Gun Hill Road, where they seized more than 800 pounds of illegal products. Authorities said the seizure included 364 pounds of flavored vape products, nearly 250 pounds of THC vape products and other untaxed tobacco and cannabis items.
The business had previously been ordered closed, but investigators allege the shop cut through a city-issued padlock and resumed operations. The sheriff’s office responded by resealing the storefront on Thursday afternoon.
Officials say businesses that violate sealing orders and continue selling illegal cannabis, vape and untaxed tobacco products pose a threat to public safety and undermine legitimate, regulated businesses.
In a statement to News 12, the Department of Finance said, “Businesses that violate sealing orders and continue to sell illegal cannabis, vape and untaxed tobacco products undermine public safety.”
Authorities also warned that the sale of unregulated products may pose health risks to consumers. Summonses posted on the storefront indicate the business could face penalties of up to $25,000.
The shop remains sealed. Officials said anyone who unlawfully enters the business could face arrest.
