Members of the Sag Harbor community gathered Thursday evening at Steinbeck Park to support the family of Cesar Albarracin Guncay, 12, who died during a school trip to Pennsylvania last month.

Cesar, a sixth-grade student at Pierson Middle-High School, drowned after the raft he was riding in capsized during a guided whitewater rafting excursion on the Lehigh River, according to authorities.

The community gathering, organized by Sag Harbor Helpers and the Sag Harbor Fire Department, offered residents an opportunity to come together, share support and honor Cesar’s memory.

Mayor Thomas Gardella said the event demonstrated the community’s commitment to standing by Cesar’s family as they continue to grieve.
