STRONG TO SEVERE STORMS FOR SATURDAY:
Saturday is a keep-checking-in-on-the-weather kind of day. We are tracking the potential for strong storms beginning by the early afternoon, with repeated rounds of nasty thunderstorms moving through during the afternoon, evening and early parts of the overnight.
A flood watch is in effect from early Saturday to early Sunday.
Concerns with these storms include frequent lightning, repeated downpours leading to flash flood concerns, damaging straight-line winds, as well as the possibility for rotation and a few stray tornadoes. Stay weather aware throughout your Saturday. While there may be a few breaks in the storms, there are more on the way. Unfortunately, beach and outdoor plans will be better on Sunday, when storm chances and smoke both improve.
A WORD ABOUT THE WILDFIRE SMOKE:
After brief improvements earlier today with air quality and smokiness, Canadian wildfire smoke will return into the night and early Saturday. This will make for a hazy beginning to the day. Strong storms will move through in the afternoon and evening, which will cause improvement in air quality from the rain. Until then, an air quality alert is in effect until midnight on Saturday. Limit outdoor time and avoid strenuous exercise during this time.
