Army veteran Cait Conley declared victory Tuesday night in the race for New York's 17th Congressional District.

Conley was one of five Democrats who competed for the chance to face Republican Rep. Mike Lawler in November.

Those other challengers included Rockland County Legislator Beth Davidson, Tarrytown Trustee Effie Phillips-Staley, former journalist Mike Sacks and Air Force veteran John Cappello.

The district covers all of Rockland and Putnam counties, the northern half of Westchester County and parts of southern Dutchess County.
