South Bronx residents can expect to see a brand-new affordable apartment building by next year.

Mayor Zohran Mamdami and other city leaders broke ground on the construction site earlier today, which will be dubbed the River Commons.

According to city officials, the $255 million mixed use development will be built on Gotham Health’s campus and bring 328 affordable homes to the area. It will also feature an expanded public health center.

The River Commons is expected to be completed in 2027.
