The Hudson Valley is bracing for several days of dangerous heat, and doctors are urging residents to take steps to stay safe.
Health experts say staying hydrated, limiting outdoor activities and finding air-conditioned spaces are key to avoiding heat-related illnesses. “We want people to keep themselves hydrated and drink plenty of water,” said Dr. Evan Cohen with Emergency Services at Northern Westchester Hospital.
Cohen also recommends avoiding direct sun exposure during the hottest part of the day. “You want to avoid sun exposure between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. when it’s the hottest and the sun is the strongest,” he said.
For those without air conditioning, officials say cooling centers are available throughout Westchester County.

Doctors say air conditioning is especially important for people at higher risk, including older adults and those with chronic medical conditions.
Residents can also seek relief at libraries, community centers and other designated cooling locations.
Forecasters say the heat wave is expected to continue through Friday.
