A Wakefield grandmother was killed in a hit-and-run crash Tuesday afternoon after police say she was struck by a motorcycle while crossing the street.

The collision happened around 2:30 p.m. at the intersection of White Plains Road and East 225th Street, according to police.

The motorcyclist struck the woman before fleeing the scene, investigators said. It's not clear whether the motorcycle ran a red light, and no arrests have been announced.

Neighbors who witnessed the crash described a horrifying scene, saying the impact sent the woman airborne before she was dragged down the street.

“It was heartbreaking,” one witness said. “We tried to stop him, but he didn’t stop. He was coming too fast.”

Another witness said neighbors immediately rushed to help, surrounding the victim and comforting her until emergency crews arrived.

The woman was transported to a local hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

The NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad spent hours processing the scene, using drones and cameras to document evidence as detectives work to identify and locate the motorcyclist.
