Bronx man found guilty in Concourse Village stabbing that marked first homicide of 2023

The Bronx District Attorney’s Office says a Bronx man has been found guilty of a stabbing in Concourse Village that marked the first homicide of 2023.

Ira Shane attacked Sergio Garcia, 63, just before 4 a.m. on New Year's Day, 2023. The attack happened in front of 1335 College Ave. According to the NYPD, a woman was also stabbed and survived.

Police say they were notified of the attack after both victims arrived at the BronxCare Health System emergency room.

Garcia, of Longwood, died at the hospital.

The woman, who was 38 years old at the time, suffered a stab wound to the torso and was listed in stable condition.

Shane was found guilty of first-degree manslaughter on Monday.

He is expected to be sentenced on Sept. 15.
