Part of a major roadway in Yonkers is closed after a section of pavement collapsed.

The Yonkers Police Department says all northbound lanes on Nepperhan Avenue are closed between Axminster Street and Myrtle Street while crews make repairs.

One southbound lane remains open to traffic.

Drivers are being urged to avoid the area if possible and expect delays.

Police say Sawmill River Road and North Broadway can be used as alternate routes.

Officials have not said how long repairs are expected to take.
