The Mamdani administration is building dozens of affordable apartments in Hunts Point section of The Bronx.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held for the new project, The Casanova Residence on Cassanova Street Monday morning. City officials say the development will have 96 affordable housing units.
Fifty-eight of those will be supportive housing apartments for homelessness and serious health conditions services, and 38 will be rent-stabilized homes available through the NYC Housing lottery.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani says this project is one of many meant to rewrite the relationship between City Hall and The Bronx. The project is the DOE Fund's 11th affordable housing development in the Bronx.
The development will be across from the first city-run grocery store when construction wraps up.
The Mamdani administration is investing $1 billion over the next two fiscal years specifically to create and preserve supportive housing.
