Search for swimmer, storm shuts down Silver Sands State Park

According to DEEP, two of its lifeguards saw a swimmer near the sandbar that connects Charles Island to Silver Sands State Park and eventually lost site of the swimmer. It happened around 3:36 p.m.

Silver Sands State Park was closed Saturday after emergency personnel launched a search for a missing swimmer and due to the storm that rolled through, the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection says.

According to DEEP, two of its lifeguards saw a swimmer near the sandbar that connects Charles Island to Silver Sands State Park and eventually lost site of the swimmer. It happened around 3:36 p.m.

Officials say that out of an abundance of caution, they called in DEEP En Con Police, the Milford Fire Department and the Coast Guard to assist in the search.

They did not locate the swimmer and halted the search at at around 7 p.m. DEEP says search efforts will not resume, unless someone is reported missing.

The park remained closed for the rest of Saturday.
