NYPD: More than 3,000 guns seized citywide so far in 2026
Brooklyn leads the five boroughs with 915 guns seized, followed by the Bronx with 782.

The NYPD says it has taken more than 3,000 guns off New York City streets so far this year, with Brooklyn and the Bronx accounting for more than half of those seizures.
According to the department, officers have recovered 3,259 guns citywide since January. Brooklyn leads the five boroughs with 915 guns seized, followed by the Bronx with 782.
Police say 764 guns were seized in Manhattan, 605 in Queens and 193 on Staten Island.
Of the guns recovered citywide, 199 were ghost guns, firearms without serial numbers that can be difficult for law enforcement to trace.
The announcement comes as the NYPD reports historic lows in gun violence through the first seven months of the year.
From January through July, police recorded 381 shooting incidents, down 7.5% compared to the same period last year. The number of shooting victims dropped 5.5%, while murders fell nearly 23%, from 193 last year to 149 this year.
The declines were even greater in New York City public housing developments. The NYPD says shooting incidents there are down more than 33% so far this year, while shooting victims are down 35% and murders are down 45%.
Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch says the department’s efforts to get illegal guns off the streets, target gang activity and deploy officers to areas experiencing violence have contributed to the declines.
The NYPD says it has carried out 25 gang-related takedowns so far this year.
The department’s Summer Violence Reduction Plan has also deployed up to 3,800 officers each night across 72 designated zones, including areas in public housing and the subway system.
