Campaign aims to cap Citi Bike fee at $3

State lawmakers, New York City Council members and transportation advocates are supporting a campaign to lower the price of Citi Bikes.
The campaign launched by the nonprofit organization Transportation Alternatives seeks to cap the cost of a 45-minute ride at $3. A ride of that length currently costs over $12, nearly three times the standard rate five years ago.
Citi Bike is the largest bike share program in the country and the only that doesn’t receive public funds. However, Transportation Alternatives says it still costs more than similar programs in Chicago, Boston and D.C.
The organization created a petition calling on Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Department of Transportation Commissioner Mike Flynn to help their initiative.
