Bronx man arrested in Midtown synagogue attack

A Bronx man was arrested Friday after a hate crime incident at a Midtown synagogue that left two people injured, according to the NYPD.

Police responded to a 911 call at 6:10 p.m. for a disturbance at a synagogue located at 652 Lexington Ave. in Midtown.

Larry Montes, 46, of Grand Concourse, became disruptive during a religious service and was being escorted out by security.

As security attempted to remove him, police said Montes struck a 63-year-old woman, causing a small laceration to her lip and right forearm.

Police say he also spit on and head-butted a 65-year-old male security guard.

Montes was taken into custody and faces multiple charges, including assault as a hate crime, assault, criminal mischief as a hate crime, disruption of a religious service, criminal trespass as a hate crime, aggravated harassment and harassment.
