A record number of kindergarteners had an exemption for a required vaccination last school year, the Centers for Disease Control says.
The agency says 4.2% of kindergartners had an exemption for at least one required vaccine during last school year.
The CDC says this amounts 157,000 new schoolchildren without full coverage from at least one state-mandated vaccine. Officials say that's nearly 20,000 more than the previous year.
Vaccine exemptions have increased in all but nine states, including New York and Connecticut.
