Throggs Neck ambulance corps property cleaned up after years of overgrowth

A property in Throggs Neck that neighbors said had become overgrown and was impacting nearby homes has now been cleaned up.
News 12 first reported on conditions at the former Throggs Neck Volunteer Ambulance Corps property at 3955 East Tremont Avenue after the Throggs Neck Business Improvement District stepped in to help a neighboring homeowner.
At the time, BID Executive Director Bob Jaen said weeds had grown as high as 18 feet and were growing through a fence onto the neighboring property.
The BID brought in a landscaper to cut back the overgrowth along the homeowner's property line at no cost.
Now, Jaen says a larger cleanup of the Volunteer Ambulance Corps property has been completed through a joint effort involving Salcedo Landscaping, Jesus Rodriguez from the Gotham Volunteer Ambulance Corps and the Throggs Neck BID.
"What was once an issue that had gone unaddressed for years was finally resolved through true teamwork and commitment," Jaen said.
The property was once home to the Throggs Neck Volunteer Ambulance Corps, an organization with longstanding ties to the neighborhood. After it stopped operating at the location, neighbors said the property became increasingly overgrown.
The woman living next door previously told News 12 the conditions had become more than an eyesore, with weeds spreading onto her property and concerns about mosquitoes, insects and animals.
Jaen says the BID hopes the cleanup marks a new chapter for the site and that the property can ultimately become something the community can be proud of.
"Their partnership truly created a miracle, and the result is something the entire community can be proud of," Jaen said of the cleanup effort.
