Statistics revealed by NYPD officials show a decline in overall major crimes.

The New York City Council reviewed the statistics during an oversight hearing on Wednesday.

Through August, murders have dropped 24% compared to last year.

Shooting incidents are down 9.6% and robberies have decreased 11.9%.

It is not all good news, however. The data shows an uptick in felony assaults.
